Position Summary
The Team Lead serves as a frontline advisor, academic coach, and college access guide to a small team of high school students participating in FAE Foundation’s leadership and university prep program. Like a residential advisor, college access counselor, or Scholars coach, the Team Lead plays a pivotal role in nurturing student development, tracking progress, and providing tailored guidance on academic, scholarship, and career pathways.
This position combines peer leadership, mentorship, and administrative coordination—ideal for passionate, bilingual professionals or university students who want to give back by shaping the future of Africa’s youth.
Key Objectives
- Build strong relationships with a small team of high school students.
- Provide step-by-step support for college applications, financial aid, scholarships, and career planning.
- Serve as a long-term mentor guiding students from high school through early university transition.
- Foster motivation, resilience, leadership, and purpose.
Core Responsibilities
Student Team Coordination
- Oversee a group of 5–10 students and conduct regular check-ins (biweekly minimum).
- Track academic progress, extracurricular involvement, and overall well-being.
- Maintain updated profiles on each student’s goals, challenges, and milestones.
College & Scholarship Advising
- Assist students in researching and selecting local and international universities.
- Guide students through university application platforms (CampusFrance, Common App, UCAS, etc.).
- Help draft and review personal statements, CVs, and recommendation letter requests.
- Provide support for financial aid forms (e.g., FAFSA, CampusFrance social file, scholarship essays).
- Identify and disseminate relevant scholarship opportunities and deadlines.
Mentorship & Long-Term Guidance
- Provide continuous encouragement, goal-setting, and strategic academic planning.
- Discuss university majors, global careers, and how to align personal values with long-term paths.
- Help students build confidence, study habits, and a growth mindset.
Family & Community Engagement
- Communicate with families as needed to encourage support at home (in coordination with the Foundation).
- Provide culturally relevant explanations of the college process, especially for first-generation students.
Resource Development & Referrals
- Connect students to workshops, webinars, books, and trusted online platforms.
- Refer students to psychologists, academic coaches, or advanced support where needed.
- Contribute to FAE’s internal library of college prep tools and FAQs.
Team Collaboration & Reporting
- Attend regular team lead meetings for coordination and training.
- Submit simple monthly reports on student engagement, needs, and wins.
- Collaborate with lecturers, program coordinators, and guest speakers.
Candidate Profile
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or current enrollment in university (any discipline)
- Strong understanding of college admissions, scholarships, and career pathways—especially for African and international contexts
- Fluent in both French and English (spoken and written)
- Experience working with youth, teaching, or mentoring
